Project Type

Final Project

Having your VR and gaming necessities on hand is essential.

SWOT Analysis

Before anything, I did a SWOT analysis to discover the basic pros and cons of the brand and its’ interface.

As a current user of the product, and although satisficing, I have recognized some pain points while navigating (or trying to, at least) the interface.

How can VR gaming be made easier?

Usability Test

Usability testing identified app issues: multiple journey challenges.

The objective is to get hand-on experience with those using the app. This way, we have more tangible research to work off of during the initial sketching phase.

Card Sorting

Clear breakdown of each page within the interface before redesign

This is the last step prior to wireframing. The purpose of card sorting is to see where everything is analyze the grid and reorganizing based on importance.

Challenge

This is not a re-design of the whole interface, but a re-design for 3 key-features.

The objective is not to go overboard. Creating an outline or design approach will aid in organization and understanding what to change and what to keep static.

Features

Intro Survey

Asking users their likes, dislikes, wants & needs. This will help curate content on the game store, homepage ect.

Rapid Wireframes

Low-Fidelity Prototypes

Bookmark Feature

Right now, the user only has the option to subscribe to an event, we need a bookmark system to keep future events for the user.

Homepage

Main page is named ‘Explore, this creates confusion for the user.

I created individual wireframes for the features, then reviewed and I discussed with the professor.

In addition to the three features, I also re-designed the homepage and the profile page.

Low-fidelity prototype addressing usability issues

Following the creation of the rapid wireframes, I identified and singled out the features I found favorable. Subsequently, I refined my selection with valuable input from the professor.

Future Steps

More research & user feedback has clarified pain points.

Takeaways

1.Facilitate more user testing, exploring a wide range of users of all ages for better analysis of the interface.

2.Extend the platform to be accessible to the public for those who do not have the Oculus headset, but want to further look into what it would be like.

3.Expand app to be accessible for all other virtual reality devices.

Delivering and making design decisions while relying on existing assets and components

Redesigning the Metaquest Oculus app has been a beneficial experience, learning the importance of research and how to make exceptional design decisions. This assignment is not about re-designing the whole interface, but about re-designing the most prominent pain points.
